She was also one of the early members of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, founded in 1946 and carried out a number of pioneering action research projects, including her study of nursing in a teaching hospital and, later, of the psychological needs of children in hospital and day nurseries. She was a powerful presence in Tavistock Group Relations conferences. Her interests were wide-ranging: as well as writing on Bion, on social institutions and societal dynamics, she contributed papers on a diverse number of topics, including eating chocolate and riding motorcycles.
