The lectures originate in a series of lectures given as part of a Tavistock Masters course on Psychoanalytic Studies. This second lecture looks at two plays by the English Jacobean dramatist, John Webster - ' The White Devil' and 'The Duchess of Malfi' - in which sibling relationships play a significant role. The presenters discuss the psychic and social disorder of the time as reflected in the plays which relate an imagined world of extreme violence and tyranny and ask if there is a connection between this and the actual social world of Jacobean life.
