Presenter: Dr David Hewison Chair : Bernadette Wren, Child and Family Dept. Since its inception in 1948 as the Family Discussion Bureau, the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships has taken up its place in the 'Tavistock family' of organisations by exploring how adult couple relationships are at the heart of societal, family, and emotional security. Originally conceived-of primarily as a research and training organisation, it has worked with couples in all sorts of guises: adults in love and in hate; parents in conflict or distress; couples who cannot become parents; as well as the couple dynamics in organisations - between supervisor and supervisee, and between staff member and client. In its clinical work, training and publications it has drawn on psychoanalysis, attachment theory, systems theory and Jungian analysis as its sources, and its staff have taught, lectured and published widely. As its lease in the Tavistock Centre building comes to an end this summer and the organisation makes a new home in Warren Street, this talk is a chance for us to revisit its history, reinvigorate its links with the colleagues who remain here, and review its current and future plans. Dr David Hewison is a senior clinical staff member and Reader in Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships. He is also a Jungian analyst and a professional member of the Society of Analytical Psychology. He is programme leader for the Centre's MA in Attachment, Psychoanalysis and the Couple Relationship .
