Oedipus at work: but what is his role in the organisation? - London, Tavistock Clinic, 2009 - 1 video disc (63 min)

DVD Format Copyright Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. Copying of this recording is striclty prohibited.

This presentation connects difficulties in the modern organisation to Sophocles’ play, first performed in 428 BC. Links are made between individual development and organisational maturity and to current preoccupations in organisations – difference and diversity; authority, autonomy and leadership; succession; creativity and castration; the adolescent behaviour that may be so prevalent in organisations; etc...

The presentation will suggest that this new understanding of oedipal issues will help managers and consultants in the modern world. Examples from the past and the present will be given to demonstrate that Oedipus is lurking in our organisations and may need a Job Description if his presence is not to be too disruptive!
